Bridal hair, with the whole morning planned

Trials, day-of styling, veil placement and the full bridal party — handled by one stylist who has done it for twenty years, from a studio five minutes from the North End's wedding venues and a short drive from almost everywhere else in the city.

What bridal hair actually involves

Wedding hair is a different job from a normal appointment, and not because the styles are harder. It is because the constraints are unforgiving: it has to survive twelve hours, a veil going in and coming out, photographs from every angle, hugging, dancing, and whatever the weather does. A style that looks perfect for an hour is a failure.

So the work is as much planning as styling. What holds on your hair type, where the veil sits and how it comes out without collapsing the style, how the shape reads against your dress neckline, and how the whole morning is sequenced so nobody is being finished while the photographer is waiting.

The service

  • Pre-wedding consultation. Your dress, your venue, your timeline, your hair. Ideally before you have locked in every other decision.
  • Trial styling session. The full look, tested and photographed, with time to adjust.
  • Day-of styling. The finished look, built to last the whole day.
  • Veil placement. Set so it can be removed after the ceremony without the style coming apart.
  • Bridal party packages. Bridesmaids, mothers, anyone else in the group, scheduled around the bride.
  • A touch-up kit to take with you — pins matched to your colour and what you need to fix a stray piece.

One wedding per date. Because S.A.S Salon works with one client at a time, a booked wedding date is genuinely booked. Nobody is being rushed through so the next party can start.

The timeline that works

Six to nine months out — reserve the date

Boston's wedding season runs late spring through October and Saturdays go first. Reserving early is simply the difference between having your stylist and finding another one.

Two to three months out — book the trial

Far enough ahead that there is room to change direction, close enough that your hair length and colour resemble what they will be on the day.

Six to eight weeks out — the trial itself

Bring the veil, the accessories, photographs of what you like, and a picture of the dress. Photograph the result from every angle in daylight, and note how it looks after a few hours.

Two to four weeks out — treatments

If humidity is a concern, a smoothing treatment in this window gives it time to settle.

Two to three weeks out — colour

Fresh colour needs time to reach its true tone, and this leaves a margin to fix anything. Any closer and you risk a root line or a shade you have not had time to live with. See balayage & highlights.

The week before — trim only

A light trim, nothing structural. This is not the week for a new haircut.

Where clients get married

The salon sits at 438 Commercial St on the North End waterfront, which puts it within a few minutes of Battery Wharf and the harbour venues, and a short ride from the Seaport, Charlestown, Back Bay and downtown hotels. Guests staying in the North End can walk. It is roughly ten minutes from North Station for anyone coming in by train.

Questions we get asked

How far in advance should I book?

As soon as you have a date — six to nine months for peak season. Only one wedding is taken per date, so Saturdays in summer and early autumn go quickly.

Do I really need a trial?

Yes. A trial establishes what holds on your hair, how the style works with your veil and neckline, and how it photographs. Better to find out in April than on the day.

What should I bring to the trial?

Your veil, accessories, photos of styles you like and dislike, and a picture of your dress. Wear a similar neckline if you can, and come with clean but not freshly washed hair.

Can you do my bridesmaids too?

Yes — bridal party packages cover bridesmaids, mothers and the wider group. Share the headcount early, since it sets the morning's start time.

When should I get my colour done?

Two to three weeks before. Fresh colour needs time to settle into its true tone, and the gap leaves room to adjust anything.
