A haircut you can actually do yourself

The measure of a good cut is not how it looks when you leave the salon. It is how it looks on the fourth morning, when you have ten minutes and are doing it yourself. That is the standard every cut at S.A.S Salon is built to.

One client at a time

S.A.S Salon is a single-chair studio. Sahara does not run three clients in parallel, hand you to an assistant for the shampoo, or leave you processing while she starts someone else's colour. From the consultation to the final check in the mirror, it is one stylist and one head of hair.

The practical effect is time. A cut is not squeezed into a forty-minute slot because the next booking is already in the waiting area — which is exactly the pressure that produces haircuts that look fine in the chair and wrong at home.

The consultation is the cut

Most bad haircuts are communication failures, not technical ones. So the conversation before any scissors come out covers the things that actually determine the outcome:

  • How you wear it now — and honestly, how much time you spend on it.
  • What your hair does on its own — the cowlick, the natural part, the side that never behaves.
  • Your texture and density, which decide what shapes will hold.
  • Your growth pattern, which decides how the cut ages over three months.
  • What you have tried that did not work, which is often the most useful information of all.

Photographs help, provided they are treated as direction rather than a promise. A cut that works on someone with straight, fine hair will not reproduce on thick, wavy hair — and saying so before the cut is more useful than apologising after it.

Come with your hair as you normally wear it. Clean, dry, styled your usual way. It shows how your hair actually behaves — where it parts, where it kicks, what you do with it — far better than freshly washed hair can.

What the appointment includes

  • Consultation and assessment of your hair's condition, texture and growth pattern.
  • Shampoo and conditioning.
  • Precision cut, adjusted as it develops rather than executed to a fixed plan.
  • Professional blow-dry and styling.
  • Practical advice on maintaining the shape and restyling it at home.

Allow sixty to ninety minutes.

Curly and textured hair

Curly hair is cut with the curl pattern in mind, not as straight hair that happens to bend. Curls draw up substantially as they dry, so a length measured wet finishes far shorter than intended — which is how people end up with several inches more removed than they asked for. Bring your hair in its natural state so the pattern can be seen before anything is cut.

What it costs

In the Boston market, a women's cut and style generally runs from around $65 for a wet cut to $95 or more for a full cut and style at a boutique salon, with dry cutting typically at the upper end of that range. Pricing at S.A.S Salon is confirmed when you book.

How often to come back

  • Short, structured cuts (bob, pixie): every 4–6 weeks to hold the shape.
  • Mid-length with layers: every 8–10 weeks.
  • Long hair: every 10–16 weeks, with a light dusting of the ends in between.

Growing your hair out is not a reason to stop cutting it. Split ends travel up the strand, and catching them early costs a trim rather than several inches later.
