Extensions that read as your own hair

Premium human hair, matched to your colour, installed by hand and cut in until the join disappears. The difference between extensions that look expensive and extensions that look obvious is almost entirely in the matching and the blending.

What extensions are good for

Extensions solve three problems, and it is worth being clear about which one you are actually trying to solve, because the answer changes the recommendation.

  • Length. The obvious one — going longer without waiting two years for it to grow.
  • Volume and thickness. Often the more transformative use. Fine or thinning hair can gain visible density without gaining much length at all.
  • Filling in a grown-out cut. Layers that have dropped, a bob you regret, or ends that have thinned out — extensions can bridge the awkward stage.

They can also add colour without chemistry: a few strands of brightness placed where highlights would go, with none of the lightening.

The hair matters more than the method

Most of what makes extensions look good or bad comes down to the hair itself. Quality human hair moves, takes heat, holds tone and can be reused across several installations. Cheaper hair tangles at the ends within weeks, refuses to hold a style, and develops a texture that never quite matches the hair it is attached to.

Budget honestly. The hair is usually the larger share of the cost, and buying cheap hair is the most common way people end up disappointed. Good hair reused across three move-ups works out cheaper than poor hair replaced twice.

Colour matching and blending

A single flat colour almost never matches real hair, because real hair is not one colour. Matching has to account for your base, the dimension from any highlights or balayage, and the way tone shifts from root to end. Where a stock match is not close enough, the hair is custom coloured before it goes in.

Then it gets cut. This is the step people underestimate — extensions arrive blunt and uniform, and without a blending cut the line where they start is visible from behind in every photograph. Cutting them in is what makes the whole thing disappear.

The appointment

Consultation

Density assessment, colour matching, a realistic conversation about how much length your own hair can safely carry, and a quote for hair plus labour. If your hair cannot support what you are asking for, you will hear that.

Ordering

The hair is ordered to your match. This is why extensions are not a same-day service — allow time between consultation and installation.

Installation

Sectioned and placed by hand, positioned so nothing shows when your hair is up or parted. Expect two to four hours depending on how much hair is going in.

Cut and style

Blended into your existing cut, then styled so you can see how it moves.

Maintenance

Move-ups every six to ten weeks as your natural hair grows. Keeping these appointments is the single biggest factor in whether extensions stay comfortable and damage-free.

Living with them

  • Sulphate-free products only, and keep conditioner off the attachment points.
  • Brush daily with a suitable brush, working from the ends upward.
  • Dry the bonds or wefts fully. Damp attachment points are how problems start.
  • Braid or tie loosely at night to stop overnight tangling.
  • Keep your move-up appointments. Overdue extensions pull on the roots.
  • Rinse after swimming. Chlorine and salt are hard on extension hair.

Questions we get asked

How long do extensions last?

Good human hair commonly lasts six months to a year or more and can be reused across several move-ups. The installation itself needs moving up every six to ten weeks as your own hair grows.

Will they damage my hair?

Not if they are installed correctly, sized to what your hair can carry, moved up on schedule and removed properly. Damage comes from too much weight, overdue move-ups and bad removal — all avoidable.

How much do extensions cost in Boston?

Cost splits between the hair and the labour, with the hair usually the larger share. It depends on length, quality and how much your head needs, so it is quoted after a consultation. Factor in move-ups every six to ten weeks.

Can they be matched to my colour?

Yes — matching accounts for base colour, dimension and root-to-end shift, and the hair can be custom coloured if a stock match is not close enough. Blending with a cut matters just as much.

How do I care for them?

Sulphate-free products, conditioner away from the attachment points, daily brushing from the ends up, fully dried bonds, loose braid at night, and move-ups on schedule.
